VOTE BEITEL | HALIFAX WEST ARMDALE
Hi , I'm Josh.
OVERVIEW
I’ve been an employee and a business owner, a renter and a homeowner, a student, a teacher and a parent. Now, I want to take that wide-ranging experience and use it help Halifax grow into a truly world-class city.
KEY POINTS
- Moved to Halifax in 2015 with my partner to start a family
- Have run my own business for 20+ years
- MBA with a focus on sustainable business
- Intend to bring a sense of urgency and problem-solving skills to City Hall
WHY I'M RUNNING
I grew up in Montreal, going to school in English and French, then getting a degree in Philosophy and Math from McGill University. I started my translation business when I was 22 and have kept it running for over 20 years. In that time, I went back to school to get an MBA, focusing on sustainable business strategy. That is also where I met my wonderful partner, Carolyn.
After considering a number of cities in which to settle down, we ended up choosing Halifax and couldn’t be happier with our decision. In the nine years we’ve been here, we’ve started a family, bought a home and opened a business. We’ve also created many new friendships and fallen in love with our community.
Since 2015, I’ve seen Halifax grow in incredible ways: great restaurants and shops, new community centres and schools, fantastic events, etc. There is always so much going on! It’s also pretty clear, though, that we’re experiencing some growing pains. The first apartment we rented – which again, was just nine years ago – was $950 a month for a two-bedroom in the South End. Utilities and parking included! That would be unthinkable now.
We need solutions to issues like housing and transit. We need creative thinking and a long-term outlook for Halifax’s growth. And quite frankly, I haven’t seen the sense of urgency I’d like to from City Hall. That’s why I’m throwing my hat in the ring. As a parent, a business owner, a homeowner and an active member of the community, I have skin in the game, too. I want us to succeed as much as you do. So vote for me on October 19, 2024, and let’s get things done!
